I have tried them all. Midi Health, Joi Women's Wellness, MyMenopauseRX, Alloy and yes, even Winona. As a matter of fact, Winona was the first telehealth Hormone Replacement company I tried. After getting fed up with driving to my doctor's office every few weeks for check ups, I decided I wanted to try a more convenient way to get my HRT.

Telehealth is a perfect fit for HRT. Winona's Hormone Replacement Therapy has worked really well for me.

Is Winona HRT Legit?

I get asked this question a lot. I assume it's because Winona is an online, telehealth provider and so some women question whether they are a real company with real doctors that offer FDA approved Bioidentical HRT? Everything needed to be able to be prescribed HRT and for ongoing check ups and check ins can be done via telehealth visits. Even if your doc wants you to have bloodwork to test hormone levels, that can be ordered by doc and you can visit a local LabCorp or Quest location for the blood draw.

What I really appreciate about Winona is that they don't require a telehealth visit to get started, it's more of a telehealth conversation via their patient portal. Once you register as a patient, you'll get access to the portal and begin having conversations with your assigned doctor. Click on this link to get 15% off your first Winona order.

Also, they don't require blood work. This saves on time and money. Many doctors who specialize in HRT use what they call evidence based medicine to determine whether the meds are working or not. This means if the hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog and the moodiness go away, the HRT meds you have been prescribed are working. When you do blood work for HRT, you need to understand that the numbers will represent your levels at that moment in time. Hormone levels fluctuate throughout the day, so many docs feel it's a single source of data, but not the only source.

Winona Bioidentical HRT

Winona offers only Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy. What does this mean to you?

  1. The ingredients in the HRT medications they prescribe have been FDA approved.

  2. The prescriptions will come from a compound pharmacy and will be custom made for you in a dose and formulation that's best for you.

  3. HRT prescriptions that come from a compound pharmacy are not typically covered by insurance, you'll likely be paying out of pocket. My monthly cost was $89, so about the same as when I used my insurance and was prescribed pre-dosed HRT.

Is Winona HRT FDA Approved?

Yes. Also, it is considered Bioidentical. When Hormone Replacement medications are made of Estradiol and Progesterone as the main ingredient it's considered Bioidentical. It's the ingredients that allow a HRT medication to be classified as Bioidentical or not.

If Winona prescribes to you their estrogen/progesterone cream, the ingredients are approved, but the dose, since it's customized for you, isn't FDA approved. For example, if it's decided that you should use the patch formulation for estradiol and because the patch comes in pre-packaged doses, the ingredients and the dose for the patch are both FDA approved. Whereas an estrogen cream is FDA approved for ingredients but the dose, because it's customized for you isn't FDA approved.

When the FDA approves drugs, they are approving the ingredients, the dose and how it's to be taken. If any of these items vary, then that may negate being able to say that it's FDA approved.

Will Winona help Weight Loss?

I had 36 pounds to lose by the time I started Hormone Replacement Therapy. I lost about 25 of it the hard way. I took my HRT religiously. I fasted. I starved myself. I did Orange Therapy several days a week and I was able to get some of the weight off.

I found myself 10 pounds short of my goal and I couldn't seem to get the scale to budge. Then I had a HRT specialist suggest that I try Semaglutide, which is the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic. Being only ten pounds overweight, I never dreamed that a doc would prescribe it, but they did and I was able to get the last ten pounds off very easy and without much effort.

The state of compound Semaglutide which is the homemade version compound pharmacies began to produce after the FDA placed Wegovy and Ozempic on the list of drugs in shortage is very unclear. As of May 22, 2025 - those two name brand drugs were taken off the list of drugs in shortage, meaning compound pharmacies are supposed to no longer be able to manufacture or sell Semaglutide. However, some of the companies who began selling compound Semaglutide in January of 2024, are still able to prescribe it to their patients.

The company that I get my Semaglutide from is Joi Women's Wellness. They offer HRT, Hormone Blood Work, Wegovy, Ozempic and in some cases you can still get compound Semaglutide. If you purchase a lab panel from Joi Women's Wellness, the cost of the lab includes a 1:1 consult where you can discuss your Hormone blood levels, they can prescribe HRT and you can ask if they are able to prescribe for you Semaglutide for Weight Loss? For me the combo of Hormone Replacement Therapy PLUS Semaglutide was the exact, needed combo to get off that last ten pounds.

IS Winona HRT covered by Insurance

Winona partners with a compound pharmacy for all of their HRT medications. This means they don't take insurance and you can't utilize your insurance. I will say, that after getting my HRT from several online providers, Winona's cost even with no insurance is really not any more expensive than the others that allow you to use insurance.

Also, they don't require blood work or an appointment both of which save you time and money. There is no fee to create an account. Alloy operates very similar to Winona, but they charge $50 to create an account.

I've had many women comment on my blogs and YouTube Videos that they have become a patient of Winona and have been pleased. I'm still on HRT to this day and will never look back. In fact, HRT probably could have saved my first marriage had I known I was going through perimenopause and understood the impact of it.

My original prescriptions from Winona were the Estrogen/Progesterone Cream and the DHEA tablets. The cream is $89/month and to be honest, you can get DHEA supplements at Amazon for much cheaper than what Winona sells it for.

If you are looking for a no-fuss, easy to work with company, then I would suggest you consider Winona. They offer multiple different formulations of HRT to meet your individual needs.
