Online or Telehealth has become quite popular for Menopause Care. Providers & Clinicians who are specialized in HRT, Weight Loss and others areas of mid-life are popping up everywhere.

I certainly can't speak for you, but for me, the weight gain I experienced during my perimenopause years, you know that years just prior to your last period was the one symptom that bothered me the most. Now, the hot flashes and night-sweats were not fun, but when I looked in the mirror I was disgusted with myself.

I gained 30 pounds in those 7-10 years. I weighed more at age 52 than I did when I was nine months pregnant.

But Good News, menopause weight doesn't have to be impossible to lose, I'm here to help. I've cracked the code and plan to share that with you, my friend.

The first step in losing Menopause weight is to see an online HRT specialist and start Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Can Menopause Cause Weight Gain

YES! As our estrogen levels drop, our mid-life bodies are struggling to find and store estradiol anywhere it can. For many of us, our bodies like to store estrogen in body fat, specifically belly fat.

This means our bodies when depleted of estrogen can go our body fat and get the estrogen that it needs. But there is a better way for you to supplement estrogen, Hormone Replacement Therapy.

HRT For Menopause Weight Gain

The first step in losing weight is to get on HRT. There are several fabulous online HRT clinics that make it super easy to start HRT almost right away. Many don't even require a one-on-one consultation. You can start and use your insurance or if you want it to be super fast and simple, find one that offers discounted self pay options.

The best provider if you want to take advantage of a discounted self pay option for HRT is Effecty. They will be about $145 per month for the estrogen patch and progesterone pills and they also offer FREE consultations if you have questions and want to talk to an HRT specialist before you get started.

If you want to use your medical and prescription insurance, then check out MyMenopauseRX. They accept most major plans and also offer discounted self-pay options for 20-minute consultations if they don't take your insurance.

MyMenopauseRx can also write prescriptions for name brand weight loss drugs like Wegovy or Zepbound. You'll still want to check with insurance to see if they are covered.

Menopause Weight Loss Diet

Sorry to disappointment you, but there isn't a Menopause Weight Loss Diet that you can follow that guarantees weight loss. I wish there was.

What you can do to begin making progress is to focus on your macros, get enough exercise, do weight training, pay attention to your sleep and start HRT at your earliest convenience. Like right NOW!

HRT alone wasn't enough to get me to my goal weight, but it was enough to get the first 20 pounds off. But it was still very, very hard. I was white-knuckling it most of the time. That is, until I added a GLP-1 to the mix.

How to Lose Weight during Menopause

For me the Holy Grail of losing weight after I hit menopause was a GLP-1 PLUS my Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Those last, stubborn 12-15 pounds that my body didn't want to drop finally came off when I started compound Semaglutide, a GLP-1. I wasn't thinking about food all the time and because GLP-1's keep your blood glucose levels in check, its much easier to lose weight.

The Menopause Society (formerly NAMS) recognizes that combining GLP-1s with Hormone Therapy (HT) is a promising strategy for midlife women, with emerging research from their 2025 meeting showing enhanced weight loss and metabolic benefits, potentially due to improved symptom relief (hot flashes) and synergistic effects where estrogen might amplify GLP-1s' appetite suppression.

GLP-1 for Perimenopause/Menopause Belly Fat

For many of us, it's that stubborn belly fat that bothers us the most. I know it was for me. Combining my HRT regimen and adding a GLP-1 was exactly what the doctor ordered when it came to losing weight, specifically the belly fat.

And I don't want to say it was completely effortless, but it sure was easier to put my fork down half-way through a meal because I felt so full and couldn't eat another bite.

Losing belly fat isn't impossible, if you combine your HRT and a GLP-1 weight loss medication. They work well together.

Losing Weight after Menopause

For many of you, I'm guessing this isn't what you want to hear, that you might have to break your vow of not using a GLP-1 as you've thought of it as "cheating." But I'm here to tell you, that if something works, then why would you want to fight it?

There are thousands of menopause women who have used their Hormone Replacement medications along side a GLP-1 and are experiencing the weight loss they NEVER thought they would see.

Losing weight after menopause isn't impossible, but you might need some assistance from companies like Effecty, Willow, Mochi or IVIM. See the Weight Loss page for coupon codes to get started. Some offer both HRT and GLP-1's and some just the GLP-1's.

If you are concerned that your BMI may not be high enough to qualify for a GLP-1, be sure to visit Willow as they offer "cosmetic" weight loss for those of you who only need to lose maybe 10-20 pounds and are not technically in the "Obese" category.

Menopause Weight Loss Medication

There isn't one medication that I've found that helps with menopause weight gain, but rather a combination of HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) and a GLP-1 or GIP-1, like Semaglutide or Tirzepatide.

It was when I combined both HRT and a GLP-1 that I was finally able to lose those last 15 pounds that just wouldn't budge on HRT alone. HRT is the absolute best first step, but you will likely find, that unless you also add a GLP-1, you may experience that dreaded weight loss plateau.
