Joi vs. Midi Health: Which Offers 1-on-1 Consults & the Most Thorough Testing?

I’m 59 years old and have been on bioidentical HRT since 2019. Around the start of COVID, I began scouring the internet to find a reliable online telemedicine provider. I started with Winona, and since then, I’ve personally tested 9 different online HRT platforms.
This website is a true labor of love. While every online provider ultimately requires a doctor licensed in your state to write your prescriptions, trying to figure out which platform fits your needs and budget on your own can feel overwhelming. Do You Need a Referral to See an HRT Specialist?
No, you don't need a formal referral to see an HRT Specialist or doctor. Once you choose which online, telehealth platform or provider you want to try, you'll create an account and they will direct you from there on next steps.
Most, if not all will ask you to create a profile within their HIPAA compliant patient portal. In some cases you might see an actual human doctor or HRT specialist and in others you will only have back and forth text messaging. If you know you want to see an actual HRT clinician, then either Midi Health or Joi Women's Wellness are a good fit for you.
Platforms like Winona and Alloy don't afford the option to consult with an actual person during a telehealth meeting. Others like Inner Balance, will suggest you get started, give their products three months and then they schedule a follow up to see how you are doing.
My current HRT regimen is Oestra by Inner Balance. I appreciate that it's one product in lieu of the three that it typcially takes. With Oestra, I fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. After my first three months on Inner Balance I was afforded a telephone consultation with one of their doctors to discuss my personal results on Oestra.

Using your Medical Insurance and or HSA/FSA Credit Card with Midi Health or Joi Women's Wellness
Both Midi Health and Joi Women's Wellness accept HSA and FSA Credit cards for products and consultations/lab tests.
Midi Health does take medical insurance, but you'll want to ensure they are in network for you. When I became a patient of Midi Health, my insurance was out of network and so I had to pay the full $250.00. The $250 went toward my out-of- network deductible.
It's always a good idea to check with the provider to ensure they take your insurance so you are not surprised.
Do all online, telehealth HRT providers offer the same products?
This is also an area where things become more nuanced. For providers/telemedicine platforms like Midi Health, they only write prescriptions that can be picked up at your local pharmacy. These products will be FDA approved and only available in dosages approved by the FDA. No customization. All of the meds will be covered by your prescription insurance or you can use a GoodRx Coupon Code.
Joi Women's Wellness is more of a boutique Bioidentical HRT shop. They work primarily with custom Compounded Pharmacies and therefore can custom create bioidentical formulations and dosages. You can't get this type of customization from a product at your local pharmacy.
Both Joi and Midi might offer some of the same products, like pills or patches, but with Midi you'll be limited to whatever is available at your pharmacy and also what's in stock.
Due to the national estrogen patch shortage of 2026, many providers like Joi have continued to flourish as they have lots of options due to compounding that providers like Midi Health don't have access to. Only you know what's best for you.
Are Hormone Labs Required or Offered by Joi Women's Wellness or Midi Health
Here is another subject that sets Joi Women's Wellness apart from Midi Health. Many of us understand that our hormone levels will vary through out the day and that's why many providers like Midi Health practice the Evidence Based Medicine theory. However, some medicaations like Testosterone for Women require a blood test first and therefore many of the online telehealth providers that don't offer testing or require it also don't prescribe Testosterone.
Personally, I'm a data geek and I love the numbers. When I switched from another platform to Joi Women's Wellness, the blood work didn't even pick up that I'd been on HRT. My levels were still so low that you wouldn't know I was on HRT if I didn't tell you. No wonder I didn't feel great on that specific HRT regimen. Once I started a new formulation of estrogen from Joi Women's Wellness, my blood work showed an increase in my estrogen labs and therefore I could be certain the new HRT products were working as I had hoped and intended.
Testing does add a layer of cost that some will not appreciate, but if you are like me and you want that added amount of data to ensure your HRT is working, then you might not be oppossed to the additional cost of the labwork.

The Value of One-On-One Consulations
This is another area where only you can determine what you need and want. My first go around with HRT from Winona meant I didn't see an HRT specialist and although the experience was fine, it did feel odd to me that I didn't see someone. Now, 9 providers later, since only about 1/2 offer an 1:1 consult, that doesn't see so odd to me, but I get it if you insist on wanting to see someone.
Both Joi Women's Wellness and Midi Health will afford to you a 30 minute 1:1 consultation. They will allow you to ask questions and review available products. In the case of Joi Women's Wellness, you'll have labs done first so you'll have an opportunity to review your labs prior to that consultation and maybe even upload them in Chat GPT or Gemini so you can be armed with questions before you meet with your Joi Clinician.
Joi Women's Wellness will ask you to subscribe quarterly so you can also have the needed resources and support to get follow-up labs to ensure the medications are working as expected. You'll be purchasing your products from Joi's partner Compound Pharmacy in 3-Month supply.
I met with Brittany at Midi Health and Dr. Brooke at Joi Women's Wellness. Both were very informative, but I truly appreciated Dr. Brook at Joi in that when I mentioned that I still had 10-15 pounds I wanted to lose, she didn't skip a beat and offered to put me on a GLP-1 so I can tackle that issue as well.
While I was concerned about cost or would I qualify, she was able to help me understand, that yes, I'd be paying out of pocket for a compounded version of a GLP-1, but I was indeed qualified for the prescription based on my BMI. By now, you know my take and my thoughts on the value of Testing and even a one-on-one consultation if you are new to HRT. It's likely that you have questions and although many of them could be managed in a patient portal via messaging, sometimes it's just a better customer experience if we can sit face to face, even via digital meetings and get our questions and follow up questions addressed as they come up.
