If you’ve ever felt gaslit by a single blood test that came back normal despite your night sweats and mood swings, you aren't alone. Determining where you are in the perimenopause to menopause transition requires more than a snapshot; it requires data.
In this Mira Hormone Monitor review, I’m sharing my hands-on experience using this advanced at-home tracker to map estrogen (E3G), progesterone (PdG), FSH, and LH levels. Unlike basic menopause test strips that only give a yes/no answer, the Mira Menopause Kit provides actual numerical values to help you visualize your hormone chaos and take control of your Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) journey.
Why FSH is the "Early Warning System" for Perimenopause and Menopause
If you’re using the Mira Monitor to track perimenopause, the FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) test wand is your most important "early warning system." While Estrogen and Progesterone tell you what your ovaries are doing today, FSH tells you how hard your brain is working to keep the system running. The harder your system is working, the more likely that you are in perimenopause
Mira offers several different test wands depending on what data you are looking for. In my initial order, I ordered the Ovum Wands (yellow box) and the Max Wands (lavender box).
The Mira Ovum Wands test for FSH which is where is want to start if you are curious around your FSH levels. This is the standard hormone to measure if you are in perimenopause. Mira offers a package via Amazon for less than $150 that includes the wands to test for FSH. In five-to-ten days, you'll have enough data to confirm if your FSH levels are high, meaning you are in perimenopause. This data along with any symptoms you might be experiencing will be enough to reach out to an online provider and get started on a Hormone Replacement Therapy regimen.
Menopause is defined as that day when you can say you've gone twelve months without a period. That's obvious, we don't need a test for that. But, the time leading up to menopause can last for 8-11 years and that's when we get curious and wonder if things are starting to change, this is where hormone monitors come in quite handy.
Understanding the Numbers: What High FSH on Your Mira Monitor Really means
High FSH isn't a disease—it’s a signal. Your brain is shouting at your ovaries to produce estrogen. When the ovaries don't respond, the brain, turns up the volume, which results in those high FSH number on the Mira screen.
10–25 mIU/mL: You are likely in early perimenopause. Your ovaries are starting to struggle, but they are still in the game.
25–40 mIU/mL: You are in late perimenopause. This is often the "chaos zone" where hot flashes and sleep disturbances peak.
40+ mIU/mL: This is the menopause range. If this stays high for 12 months without a period, the transition is likely complete.
Estrogen vs. FSH: Why the Brain-Ovary Feedback Loop Matters
In perimenopause FSH is pulsatile, meaning it will release in bursts and it won't always be consistent. A single high number doesn't mean you are "done" with periods. It means your body is working overtime this week. This is why tracking over 5-10 days with Mira is better than a single blood draw at a clinic.
Often FSH levels are the first sign that estrogen levels are decreasing. High FSH is strongly linked to night sweats, anxiety, and that collagen loss (like the saggy earlobes!) because it indicates that your estrogen is bottoming out. Which means, it's time to consider Hormone Replacement Therapy.
⚠️ Note for HRT Users: If you are already on Hormone Replacement Therapy, a "high" FSH might actually start to decrease. This is a sign that your HRT is effectively providing the estrogen your brain was looking for, allowing your system to "calm down."
My Mira Review: Tracking Peri-menopause & HRT Success
Seeing a high FSH reading on your Mira monitor can feel like a "lightbulb moment," but it’s just the beginning of your advocacy journey. If your chart consistently shows FSH levels above 25 mIU/mL alongside "bottoming out" estrogen (E3G) or progesterone (PdG), it is time to have a data-driven conversation with your healthcare provider.
Instead of entering into a telehealth appointment and saying, "I think I'm in menopause," you can now say, "My daily hormone tracking shows a sustained rise in FSH and a significant drop in estrogen, which correlates directly with my symptoms."
The Goal: Use the "Export Data" feature in the Mira app to share your PDF report with a menopause-informed specialist. This objective evidence can be the key to moving past "normal" snapshot labs and qualifying for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or dosage adjustments that finally address your symptoms—and protect your long-term collagen, heart and bone health.
The Confidence Factor: Why Tracking My Levels confirmed my HRT Dosage is working for me
I've been on HRT for over six years. So I wasn't surprised when my Mira monitor didn't reveal high FSH levels. Actually, that's good. It means my brain is calm and not constantly screaming at my ovaries to make estrogen. Not that they could even if they tried. LOL.
With my Mira Hormone Tracker I was able to see my estrogen, progesterone and LH levels. Monitoring these levels helped me to confirm that the current HRT regimen is working and that my levels are in line with where they should be for a women who is 59 and has been on HRT for years.
My current regimen and the one I've been on for about ten months is the Oestra Cream by Inner Balance. I had been on the Patch + Pills + Vaginal cream prescription Combo for years, but my sleep still wasn't where I wanted it. It was when I switched to Oestra that I noticed that I fell asleep faster and stayed asleep longer.
Also, with the data from my Mira Hormone Tracker, I can see that my current systemic HRT regimen (Oestra by Inner Balance) is just right for me. I can rest knowing that my Hormone Replacement Therapy is working and that my brain is no longer screaming at my ovaries. All is calm.
The Mira Hormone Tracker with FSH wands will cost about $142. If you chose to purchase the kit I purchased from Mira directly, it will include the FSH wands (yellow box) and also the max wands (lavender box) to test for estrogen and progesterone, expect a cost just north of $200 for that. There is typically a coupon on the website that you can add to your order as well.
